It’s the most wonderful time of the year, as the song says. And whilst everyone is getting busy with their Christmas parties and endless list of things to buy, there are some households who still don’t know how they would prepare their Noche Buena spread amidst the difficult times we are currently facing. Good thing is that World Vision allows every one of us to share what we have with those people in need with their Noche Buena Campaign 2022.
It was in 2006 when World Vision started this campaign where we could all help certain families in different communities to have a Noche Buena Gift for the coming Christmas. I believe that there are some people who really want to share their bountiful blessings but do not know where to start. Here is the perfect chance to share not only a special Christmas meal but also hope and God’s love.
I remember growing up, our local church would ask for Noche Buena sponsorships and donations for our dear members who were struggling to keep up with everyday living. My family would go to the grocery and specifically choose the package we would give to our chosen family. It was an annual thing that we look forward to as the kids from the other family would make some greeting cards to show their gratitude to us. The small kids would just draw some things to express their happiness. And now that my parents are both gone, I know that the gift-giving tradition has to continue.
For PhP 1,000, two families will be provided with Noche Buena gift packages which include ingredients for a Spaghetti meal (pasta, spaghetti sauce, cheese, and corned beef), Fruit salad (mixed fruit cocktail and condensed milk), and other items such as mayonnaise and juice.
I received the same Noche Buena package that the families would be receiving and I think that it’s more than enough for that one night of celebration. I also tried recreating my mom’s special fruit salad with the ingredients I received and just added an apple, some cheese cubes and a splash of calamansi juice and it was yummy according to my son.
