My eyes were fixed on Myanmar’s romantic rural scene as my buddy was busy capturing Burmese images of life unfolding right before him. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath as I feel the fresh breeze. I opened my eyes and realized that I was dreaming. I gazed upon my buddy but couldn’t find him. I was searching through the thick duvet to no avail. The huge bed of our home in Mandalay, Hotel Amazing Mandalay, swallowed him.
After exploring Yangon and Bagan, we went to Mandalay for
the last leg of our Myanmar adventure. It was the 20th day of our two-month backpacking trip around Southeast Asia and we’re thrilled to check out
Mandalay.
We traveled from Bagan via bus and asked if we could
be dropped off near our hotel. Luckily, Amazing Hotel Mandalay is located on a main
thoroughfare and we hopped off across the street to where our hotel was (check here for discounted tours, transportation and activities in Bagan).
It was noontime and the sun was beaming its most
radiant glow. We were panting heavily as we entered the doors to our home. Mingalabar! Someone greeted us as our
backpacks collapsed on the floor. We slumped on the couch and enjoyed the cool AC.
Hotel Amazing Mandalay, sister hotel of our home in Bagan - Amazing Bagan Resort, will be our home in Mandalay for four days.

Deluxe Twin Room |
Our room located on the first level had a high ceiling
that provided a very airy feel. The heavy draperies masked the bright sun
outside. I parted it which revealed a mini garden.
Deluxe Double Room |
We started to unpack our stuff and felt relieved as our four-day stay would mean that we’d be settling in our room long enough to just chill, we’re not rushing to unpack and pack.
I rested my listless body on the bed and noticed how
big it was. I mean, our bed could fit in a family of four, and I’m not exaggerating.
I dozed off effortlessly as my body moulded on the comfy mattress. I dunno how
long my slumber was but I dreamt about a lovely train adventure. I woke up
looking for my buddy who was swallowed in the vastness of our bed. It was
past lunchtime and my stomach was grumbling.
Spa rooms |
We went out and found a nice set-up at the lawn area
for a Burmese puppetry. It was at the Outside
Terrace Restaurant and it made us regret that we dined out somewhere. The Spa Thu Kha is the in-house massage
facility of the hotel. Located at the back of the hotel, it has 12 spa rooms
open for guests and non-guests who would want to relax and rejuvenate. The
hotel also offers laundry services, car and boat rental service, doctor-on-call,
24-hour room service, currency exchange, and indoor fine dining restaurant.

For the next three days, we explored Mandalay and got some help from the concierge. They were all very helpful. We would ask something and they would offer multiple options. They were also very concerned on our walking trips around town. They would cheerfully greet us every time we got back from our leisure walks. That’s what I love most about boutique hotels; the intimate crowd makes it homey.
Mornings were always great. We usually went straight
to the breakfast buffet area and enjoyed the local and international breakfast
favorites. What I love most was the bread and fruit sections.
Our four-day stay at Hotel Amazing Mandalay was really amazing. The location was perfect, our room was homey and all of the staff were helpful. And the bed... Oh that bed...
