After I made some reservations, I checked out my email and realized that we will be transported to our dinner place via speedboat at Villa Song Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City.

It was a fine day for strolling. Me and the guys just had a tour at the Cu Chi Tunnels and decided to splurge a bit, a dinner by the Saigon River perhaps? I made prior reservations at Villa Song Saigon and realized that we had to be transported by means of speedboat, I got giddy right away (check here for discounted tours, transportation and activities in Ho Chi Minh).

We arrived at the docking area and waited for our boat to arrive. Our boatman led us to our swanky boat and sped right away. The journey over the Saigon River was remarkable. We were all holding on to our seats while enjoying the breathtaking sunset over the river.

We arrived at Villa Song Saigon feeling very enlivened. We were greeted by a gracious staff and ushered to the main lobby, the receiving area. There’s this homey feel to the hotel. You wouldn’t feel confined as the huge receiving area was very welcoming; it felt like a home rather than a hotel.

We asked if we could probably take a tour on some of the rooms before we grab a bite which they obliged.

We checked out the Art Suite River View Room (check discounted room rates here) and were blown away by the spacious room. And it doesn’t end there; it wouldn’t be called an Art Suite for nothing. There were splashes of unique art pieces here and there, the chic receiving area, the grandiose river view from the balcony, the very charming four poster bed with canopy and the lovely en suite toilet and bathroom (my favorite); everything in just one huge suite. I am so in love!

We went on and explored the pool area. And then gasps and shrieks went on for minutes as we checked out the perfect spot to lounge around the pool. We wished to be housed there that night. Dream on baby.

After the tour, we headed to Bistro Song Vie (al fresco area) and checked out the menu when I saw some couples who were enjoying their candlelit dinner by the river, it was romantic.

Song Vie Seafood Soup
Saffron Aiolli, crostini, fresh seafood with a splash of Ricard

Muc Chien Gion
Crispy baby squid with light chili marinade, salt and pepper lemon dip

Goi Ga La Chanh
Poached chicken, lime leaves, onions, sweet and sour dressing

Tuna Tartare (Japanese style Tataki)
With Kaiso mix (seaweed) and Ponzu gel

Bun Thit Nuong
Grilled pork, spring roll, fresh noodles and fresh market salad leaves

Thit Heo Rim Tom
Caramelized pork and prawn with thien ly flower, served with rice

Steamed Fillet of Grouper
Served with rice, soy fish sauce, ginger and chinese cabbage

Korean B-B-Q Beef Short Ribs
Green apple slaw, Jicama

Ca Ri De
Aromatic spiced Vietnamese goat curry and vegetables served with rice

Whew! Looking at the exquisite and fine Vietnamese dishes, we couldn’t help but admire the artistic presentation. We didn’t know where to start but we sure did have lots of fun trying out some local stuff.

My favorite of the bunch were the Bun Thit Nuong which was lovely (looks like a deconstructed noodle dish) and the Thit Heo Rim Tom which, well, pork plus prawn is total happiness right?

Overall, we had a nice dinner at Villa Song Saigon. The warmest welcome we received from the staff complemented the great food they served. Apparently, there's more to Vietnamese food than Banh Mi and Iced Coffee eh?
