After 12 hours of bus transfers, immigration checks and crossing the Thailand-Cambodian border, we safely arrived at Siem Reap. We hailed a tuk tuk that brought us to our home for
three days – Sokha Angkor Resort.
It was almost nighttime when we arrived at Sokha Angkor Resort. The majestic foyer greeted us as we climbed out of our rented tuk tuk. It was huge, lavish and luxurious. We could have played
tag while checking in at the front desk office.
We were offered some complimentary cold towels and refreshing drinks as
we processed our reservations. We waited for a while and were advised that our
booked rooms are connected, I couldn’t be much happier.
We were appointed at two Deluxe City View (check here for discounted room rates),
one with a Hollywood-sized bed and one with twin beds. The group rambled and
went to their assigned rooms.
Me and my buddy’s room was huge. The 38 sq.m. room is well-equipped with Hollywood-sized bed (2m.x2.4m.) which was really enormous for the both of us, T.V. with cable channels and in-house movies, individually controlled air-conditioning unit, mini-bar, coffee and tea-making facilities and a reliable broadband and WiFi internet connection.
We didn’t have much time to go around the hotel as we were famished. We dashed into the lobby and hailed a tuk tuk ($2 for the four of us) going to Pub Street and the Night Market (which is just five minutes away) and spent the rest of the night there.
Waking up early the next day for the sunrise tour around the Angkor Wat,
our hotel gladly packed some nice breakfast packages for each one of us. We feasted
on fresh fruits and breads while watching the sun rising on the famed temple in
Siem Reap (check here for discounted tours, transportation and activities in Siem Reap).
We went back at the resort to avail the complimentary 15-minute back massage at Jasmine Spa. It was divine that we immediately went back to our rooms to snooze after a nice massage.
The complimentary 15-min. back massage at Jasmine Spa was such a treat. |
The next day proved to be the most relaxed one. We had a nice breakfast
at The Lotus Restaurant where the
complimentary buffet breakfast was served. The restaurant’s concept is to
utilize the finest Cambodian ingredients to serve a wide array of international
breakfast fares in the spread.

I had some noodle soup, stir-fried noodles, breads and spreads and
yogurts. We had a very filling breakfast and went to the garden and pool area
afterwards.
Our pool experience was the highlight of our stay in Sokha Angkor Resort. The huge 520 sq.m. pool was tastefully designed with touches of Cambodian architecture. It seemed like the temples around Siem Reap has converged into this oasis.
We wasted no time and stripped off and as I plunged, I noticed that the
water is not your typical pool water, it is salt water! Amazing indeed.
I enjoyed my first ever salt water pool experience and the outstanding service
from all of the staff. I would definitely come back at Siem Reap and dip into
the salt water pool of Sokha Angkor Resort after a long day of temple runs.
