I just need a decent hotel to snooze on and stow my luggage while I’m out exploring the city. That was me before Sofitel So Bangkok came into the picture. It’s the first time that I was wishing the city tours would end right away so I could go back and enjoy the comforts of my room and the hotel. Sofitel So is an experience in itself.
It was midday and the crazy heat of Bangkok was starting to eat up our
energies. We sluggishly climbed out of the cab and went into the lobby of Sofitel
So Bangkok, our home for two days. The stylish lobby was just a prelude to
greatness.

And then the welcome drinks; we were treated to a fancy drink that was
concocted in front of us, reminiscent of your Chemistry class in Junior High.
Test tubes of different stuff were mixed on individually prepared glasses and
then the potion was offered. That was cute.
Designed by world renowned fashion designer Monsieur Christian Lacroix
with collaboration from leading Thai architects and designers, the grand
plan of mixing French luxury and Thai hospitality came to life in this chic
contemporary hotel. The staff’s uniforms are also designed by Christian
Lacroix, nothing but exquisite traditional Thai silk, I immediately wanna own
one.

We were assigned to a So Club
room type (check here for discounted room rates). The rooms here are somewhat similar to other types (in
terms of room layout and design) but then the additional privileges by Club Signature access was the icing on
the cake. We are entitled to an open and unlimited access to the very exclusive
Club Signature Lounge (exclusive to So Club and Suite guests only), thus, the
checking-in was done here. Afternoon cocktails are also offered here, endless and
limitless. We also have the option to have our breakfast here or at the usual
buffet breakfast area at the Red Oven Restaurant. And we haven’t checked out the
rooms yet.
There are themed rooms to suit the guests’ tastes. All the rooms have
almost the same amenities and in-room facilities (except for the Suites); One
touch web window, LCD TV, complimentary WiFi and internet broadband connection,
in-room private bar (everything is free-of-charge), espresso machine, Sofitel
Signature “My Bed” with pillow menu, decorative room features by Monsieur
Christian Lacroix, en suite luxurious bath tub, shower and bath area, His and Her toiletries that’s totally
personalized and the option to choose your themed room. Now we’re talking.
The photos and virtual tours of the rooms are on the official website
but we asked if we could probably check out the room for ourselves and get the
real vibe of it, and they obliged.
Certain floors are dedicated to each element; the corridors, open areas
and even the room numbers are all consistent with the theme. So let’s go on a
tour!

It was decision time and it was an easy choice for my cousins, they want
the Wood-themed room. As for me and my buddy; it was love at first sight for
the Water-themed room. And so we went on our separate ways and indulged in our
own elements.
I was having goosebumps when I entered our room. It was dream-like.
Water is really my element (flashback;
swimming, snorkeling, cliff jumping, waterfall jumping, and so on). The
openness and airy feel resonated all throughout the room. The floor to ceiling
glass windows that opened up to Lumphini Park was nice. The glass
wall dividing the huge bath tub and the working table opened up the whole area.
The complimentary food and beverages were just too lavish. Everything in
the mini-bar was free, yes, free.

I immediately stripped off and tried the tub, and it was luxury at its finest. I was soaking into blissfulness; pure and real. I wasn’t thinking of anything at that time, I just savored every moment and the feel lingered all throughout me. I felt nothing and everything all at the same time. This is happiness.

I had the best sleep that night that I woke up smiling, as if I was
being tickled by a feather or something. I didn’t have the slightest rush on my
body, all I wanted was to relish that moment. I pulled out of bed and stared at
the view of the park; I sat on the couch and just gazed at the birds on the
trees, a very tranquil morning. And then my buddy suddenly cried out that he’s hungry, I laughed.
We went to the Red Oven
Restaurant where the buffet breakfast was being served. The smell of
coffee, bread and smoky hams and bacons greeted us as we settled in our chosen
area.
The idea of an open kitchen felt cozy and homey. We feasted on fresh fruits, cheese and cold cuts, and happy bacons. It was a very relaxing morning, indeed.

I usually get sad and melancholy when I leave a happy place. But this time, I was okay. It was check-out time and I had the easiest time to prep and leave the comforts of our room that gave me a full day of happiness. I was too happy for Sofitel So Bangkok’s unique hotel experience that it felt like I was sedated by a happy pill to even feel sad or grumpy. Cheers to blissfulness!
Sofitel So Bangkok is by far the best hotel for me.
