It was the first day of an epic trip and my very first time in Jakarta. We rode past a busy metropolis and traces of Manila went flashing in front of me. Each area looked and felt similar to my hometown that all the Filipinos on the bus mentioned the same thing, Jakarta resembles so much like Manila, even the messy rush hour traffic. We arrived at Mercure Jakarta Sabang Hotel at sundown and because of our full day transit we’re all dead tired and immediately went to our respective rooms.
Jakarta was our first stop on Trip of Wonders 2016, a twelve-day exploration on different key destinations in Indonesia by the Ministry of Tourism with 40+ souls from different Southeast Asian countries. We will be exploring Bandung, Yogyakarta, Lombok, Komodo National Park and Bali in the next few days and we’re all too excited.
Situated in the heart of Jakarta, Mercure Jakarta Sabang Hotel is near government
and corporate offices, restaurants, shops and other famous landmarks in the
city. Modern design and funky fixtures welcomed us as we entered the lobby.
Purple hues on clean white finish pumped up the whole space and a cute swimming
pool nestled in the middle of the surrounding hotel buildings.

The private toilet and bath was covered in cream and white tiles and toiletries
were also provided.
The next day, we had to wake up early for our train ride to Bandung. The in-house restaurant of the hotel, The Lobby, serves local and international breakfast fares, buffet style. The spread was divided into several sections and I frequented the Indonesian dishes.
The Jakarta Gambir train station was a mere 5-minute ride from Mercure Jakarta Sabang Hotel. We gathered on the lobby and left right after breakfast. Looking at the pool, I was wishing that we could have more time to chill and relax, but no, we had to leave after our sixteen-hour short stint in Jakarta. But I will be back, that’s for sure.
