Daylight
was creeping into our room as I stirred to wake. I slowly got up and walked
toward the patio door and pushed aside the drapes. It was seven o’clock in the
morning and the hazy sky greeted me as I went out to the balcony of our
beachfront villa. I heard the sound of chirping birds as the dawn breaks, it was as if it was recorded. I sat on the wooden seat and inhaled the sweet
morning air. It was quiet at Century Langkawi Beach Resort and I relished that
moment when alarm clock wasn’t needed and work deadlines were obsolete; holiday
at its best.
It was the second week of our Beach Hop Asia 2016 summer backpacking trip and after exploring the historical state of Melaka and the busy city of Kuala Lumpur, we headed to Langkawi for a week of nature exploration.
After
spending three days at the capital town of Kuah, we headed to one of the quiet
beachfront resorts on the island to have a relaxing stay at the beach.
It was past lunchtime when me and my two travel buddies arrived at Century Langkawi Resort. Tucked in Kampung Padang Masirat, we escaped the busy crowd of Pantai Cenang and settled at this part of the island. We were greeted by a lobby staff that assisted us to the front desk for the processing of our booking.
We
had online reservation which made everything easier. In no time, we were handed
out the key cards to our Seafront Room Villa (check room types and rates) and
were transported via shuttle.
We were dropped off to our villas and led to our rooms. And it was huge!
I
pushed the door open where his and hers
wardrobe closet were fixed on the left side of the wall. Sandwiched between is
the door leading to the toilet and bathroom. I immediately saw the
bathtub rested on the right side where a window opens up to the room, a
vanity area with complete bathroom amenities was across it. Another door led me
to the toilet and shower area. The marble-tiled floor broke the warmth of the
wooden finish of the room.
I
walked back to the main hallway and down a few steps to the main room
where a king-sized bed with plush pillows and duvet welcomed me. Earth tones
with a splash of orange hues harmoniously kept the nice cozy vibe of it.
A
separate work station with international adapters rested on a wall which
indicated my buddy’s personal space while a wooden luggage rack was my chosen
one (it’s our thing to have our own individual space).
An
apple green duo sofa with a coffee table sat opposite the flatscreen TV.
There’s also a mini fridge and coffee and tea-making facilities on another
side.
I
went to the patio door and pushed the drapes aside, it revealed a balcony
overlooking the beach. I went out and noticed a daybed and a coffee table with
two chairs, all of which were made out of wood. I sat on one of the chairs and
enjoyed the sea breeze. It felt like home, in a very grand way.
My
buddy was busy preparing coffee when I suddenly fell into a deep effortless
sleep on the daybed. Afternoon siesta was my usual thing back home and the warm
gentle wind lulled me.
It
was late in the afternoon when I was awakened to the sound of a cat purring.
Suddenly, thoughts of my whereabouts came in a flash just as I was on the
verge of actually waking up. I have to keep on reminding myself that I was on a
two-month vacation. And then I saw my
buddy having his second cup of coffee for that afternoon, you couldn’t help it
with this very relaxed environment.
We
spent the afternoon lounging at the pool area. We tried to swim at the beach
but a warning for jellyfish prevented me from moving forward. We wasted the day swimming
on the infinity pool instead.
We had our regular beer nights on our balcony and every night was as fun as the other. Travel stories, random thoughts and whatnot. It’s always fun when you have friends with you who are on the same page as you, if you know what I mean.
I
never had any problems when sleeping but the snuggly bed nestled me every night
like a baby who’s craving for a good night sleep. Waking up is better as I get
to relax by the balcony overlooking the beach with a cup of coffee on one hand.
Breakfast
is served at The Century Restaurant, the in-house restaurant of Century
Langkawi Beach Resort. It’s basically halal
food that’s served on the buffet spread; bacons, hams, sausages, baked
beans (one of my favorites) and more filled my brekkie plate. A separate area
for breads, cereals, salads and soups are always a hit with me too.
Happy brekkie |
