It was five
in the morning when my alarm suddenly buzzed, me and my buddy scheduled a
daybreak visit at the famed St. Paul’s Ruins
so we immediately got up and went off to the most visited spot in Macau
because we’re selfish to not share it with anyone thus the ungodly hour wake up
time. We got there in ten minutes. Metropole Hotel, our home in Macau, was
strategically located in the middle of all the action that during our three-day
jaunt we usually went on foot.
We arrived at
around noon via TurboJet ferry from Hong Kong to Macau. We were booked on Premier Grand Class
so we had free shuttle service directly to our hotel.
Metropole
Hotel is strategically located at Avenida de Praia which is right in the center
of the city. It houses 112 well-appointed rooms with different themes like
Chinese and European (check room types and rates).
We reached
the hotel in no time and were assisted immediately on our booking. The lobby
was elegantly decorated with touches of Cantonese and Macanese design. The
reception area was fancy with gold appliques on the counter. Checking in was a
breeze and we were ushered to our room for three days after managing our room reservation.
We were billeted
on a Deluxe European Style Room and were surprised on the Victorian feel of the
whole space. The simple yet classy design was evident on the fixtures and furniture.
Our 25 sq.m.
room with city view was so spacious that it could fit a party of twenty or more.
It had a seating area with coffee table on one side and a separate work station
on the other.
The wardrobe
closet was filled with in-room safe, hotel umbrella, bedroom slippers and
bathrobes.
The room was also
well-equipped with individually controlled air-conditioning (with heater during
winter months), mini-bar and fridge, coffee and tea-making facilities and
complimentary high-speed WiFi connection.
The en suite
toilet and bath was furnished with bathroom amenities, bath towels, magnified
vanity mirror and hair dryer. There’s also a fitted bathtub with hot and cold
shower.
The
double-sized bed with duvet and pillows was snuggly. We had bedside lamps and
tables with telephone and alarm clock. An LCD TV was installed right across the
bed.
I went to the
window and pushed the drapes aside and enjoyed the great view of the city. I went
to our bed and lazed a bit while my buddy was busy unpacking (his routine), I
lazed a bit and went on an effortless afternoon siesta that lasted for hours. And it was such a pleasant sleep.
We roamed
around the city during our three-day stay and we always sought refuge in our
hotel during the hottest hours of the day. We went home to a relaxing space and
surrendered to our lovely bed for a quick catnap and then continued with our
walking trip around.
The complimentary
breakfast was served at the hotel’s in-house restaurant, the Metropole
Restaurant. We chose to have noodle soups and enjoyed the unlimited spread of
salad, bread, spreads, ham, cheese and drinks. It was filling and the perfect
way to start the day.
I love the
perfect location of Metropole Hotel but the most remarkable thing was the personalized
service they offer to their guests. One time we asked for a bucketful of ice
cubes and they promptly delivered it to us. We once asked for an iron board and
they immediately brought it to our room. Me and my buddy enjoyed getting lost
in the narrow alleys of Macau and going home to our comfy room. I will surely stay here again in
the future (check here for discounted tours, transportation and activities in Macau).
