That afternoon we decided to try out the pool at Silver Naga Hotel. The breathtaking view of the mountainous side of Vang Vieng gave a nice backdrop to our swimming escapade. After a couple of laps it started to drizzle. The dilemma was to either suspend the dip or carry on with the swim; of course, we chose the latter.
Nam Song River at dry season |
It was our third day in town and after experiencing
its quiet side, we transferred to the more touristy area. Silver Naga Hotel is
well-located in the middle of Vang Vieng’s city center. Settled atop a slope along
the Nam Song riverbanks, it will be our home for the next four days (check here for discounted tours, transportation and activities in Luang Prabang).
Silver Naga Hotel's lobby |
The white and brown hues echoed all throughout the room which made it fresh and homey. It was equipped with king-sized bed, flatscreen
TV, coffee and tea-making facilities and a work desk.
The toilet and bath had a hot and cold shower, hair
dryer and basic toiletries.
I went to the glass doors leading to our private
veranda. The two wooden lounge chairs were seated on both ends and the stunning
view of the landscape made me stranded here for a few minutes. The limestone
karst mountain of the western side of the town and the Nam Song River was the
perfect backdrop for that chill-out afternoon.
We have four more days to cover Vang Vieng and the
strategic location of our new home was a good base camp for our exploration
around the area. Night-outs wouldn’t be a problem for it was near restaurants, pubs
and bars.
The reliable and fast WiFi connection helped us on
plotting our itineraries. With our weeklong stay in Vang Vieng, we truly had a
slow time and waking up was always great.
Breakfast was served at the in-house restaurant of the
hotel from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. The complimentary buffet spread had the basic
brekkie options of breads, noodle soups, fresh fruits and rice meals. Juice, coffee and tea were our drink options.
Me and my buddy were very tired after our cave and
lagoon explorations and decided to have a late afternoon dip at the pool. The
long and narrow pool is perfect for lap swimming. It started to drizzle as we
warmed up in the water. We thought of ditching our plans and let the rain pass
but decided to remain and swim while it showered. The cold water from the rain
felt ticklish in contrast to the warm water from the pool.
Chill out |
Silver Naga Hotel in Vang Vieng is conveniently
located in the middle of the town’s city center. The peaceful riverside is in
perfect contrast with the busy restaurants, bars and tour agencies that
scattered around. What I loved the most was waking up each morning with the
picturesque landscape, holding on to my warm cup of coffee as the soft light
from the sun rising on the horizon touching my face. Heaven.
