It was our second night in Boracay and everybody seemed to have adjusted with the party vibe of the island. Before heading out to our Friday night-out, we checked out our dinner options at the town center. Beaming with its radiant night lights, the Ruf Resto Bar at the 4th level of Ferra Hotel seemed to be the most suitable dinner place for our group, so off we went.
Ferra Hotel (check here for discounted rates) is the newest addition to the countless hotels in Boracay. Located in Sitio Bulabog, near Bulabog Beach and D’Mall, the hotel is perfectly situated in the middle of the town center. Our group was invited to have an Asian-themed dinner at the Ruf Resto Bar, one of their in-house restaurants.
We arrived at around seven in the evening, too bad we
didn’t catch the stunning Boracay sunset from the roof deck. The relatively new
bar and restaurant is open for hotel guests and non-guests, daily from 5:30
p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Entering the lush lobby of the hotel, we were
immediately greeted by a gracious staff that ushered us to the hotel’s rooftop.
It was dinnertime and the cool September breeze greeted us as we settled on one
of the lounge chairs (check here for discounted tours, transportation and activities in Boracay).
Surrounded by lush greens and soothing music playing
on the background, the rooftop bar had a very relaxed vibe with some cool light
orbs, LCD TVs, lounge chairs, and bar. We were handed the menu list for the
restaurant and were taken aback on the assortment of Asian dishes. My eyes were
glued one of Indonesia and Malaysia’s famed rice dish, Nasi Goreng. I was sure to order that.
Our group feasted on Truffle-Mushroom Soup, Mushrooms
on Toast, Nasi Goreng, Butter
Poached Salmon, Grilled Back Ribs
and Glazed Half Chicken.
While waiting for the food to arrive, we chatted on
our failed plans of discovering the unexplored beaches of Boracay that ended on
a late afternoon beer session at Puka Beach. We’re in the middle of, yet again,
planning our beach adventure the next day when our food arrived, it was fast
compared to formulating our spectacular ideas.
If you haven’t heard it yet, I have this unending
aversion with mushroom. So everything that has or cooked with this cute little
thingy makes me shiver in distaste. Well, I don’t mind seeing it but not
tasting it, I dunno why, I just don’t dig it since I was a kid (yet I never
tasted it yet, haha).
Moving on, my buddies loved the earthy taste of the
soup and the toast while I was trying the Nasi
Goreng which wasn’t as spicy as the legit ones found on the streets of
Kuala Lumpur. The Butter Poached Salmon was second best for me. The freshness
of the fish was complemented by the zest of lemon and butter and the kick from
saffron and tarragon spices.
Mushrooms on Toast (P245) Brie toast, parmesan, arugula and balsamic vinaigrette |
Truffle-Mushroom Soup (P185) Creme, parmesan croutons and tomato bruschetta |
The Glazed Half Chicken and Grilled Back Ribs were
equally tasty, tender and not gamey at all.
Glazed Half Chicken (P325) Teriyaki, sake, Japanese soy, anise and sesame |
Grilled Back Ribs (P395 | P745) Bourbon barbecue sauce, tomato-chilli salsa and chimichurri |
The dinner feast was capped off with lovely dessert
treats of Banana Spring Rolls and Caramel Mango Split.
Banana Spring Rolls (P85) Fried banana spring rolls, caramel sauce, cashew praline, cinnamon sugar and vanilla ice cream |
Caramel Mango Split (P175) Whole mangoes, trio of ice cream, creme anglaise and quezo de bola |
After our sumptuous dinner, we’re offered with a great
selection of cocktails from the bar. It was still happy hour, indeed. And then
laughter echoed throughout that side of Boracay. We had another round of
cocktails and just got the right buzz to carry on with our party crawling.
Ferra Hotel seemed to have a very relaxed atmosphere.
I kept on muttering that we should stay there on our next Boracay stint, which I
believe will be soon. Ruf Resto Bar serves an awesome mix of Asian favorites
and I will surely get my Malaysian satay
fix there next time, maybe next month?
