Grabbing some cocktail drinks from the bar, we were perfectly just on time as the sun kissed Bangkok’s horizon and showered a radiant purpleish blue hue. It was magical. And then a serenade echoed through the air while a lady and her toddler started to dance. I wanna join them but was stuck on my comfy seat and adoring the beautiful sunset from Novotel Bangkok Platinum Pratunam's Pool Bar.
It was late in the afternoon and the humid gentle wind
brushed over our face as we arrived at Don Muang Airport. Still fresh from our
Myanmar adventure, we’re really exhausted and famished. I was craving for Bangkok’s yummy cheap
food on our way out (check here for discounted tours, transportation and activities in Bangkok).
We took the BTS train and arrived at Siam station. We
walked our way towards the Pratunam area, Bangkok’s shopping capital, and
entered the receiving lobby of Novotel Bangkok Platinum Pratunam.
We were guided to proceed at the formal lobby to
process our bookings. The stylish and modern lobby greeted us as we arrived at
the 6th floor. The huge ceiling made it more spacious. Our reservation was arranged
swiftly with the supervision of Ms.Sharon. After a quick rundown of our
three-day schedule, we hastily went to our room. We’re really tired of our whole-day transit so I was longing for a chill out day.
Lobby and Platinum Lounge |
The open-type toilet and bath made the room more
spacious. The clear glass had a shutter for those private moments. There’s a hot and cold shower, hair dryer and
toiletries were all provided for (except for toothbrush which we needed to request for).
We wanted to grab a bite right away but decided to
chill first at Bar 9. Lounging at the pool bar with a sweet voice serenading us on the background, we witnessed one of the most magical dusks ever as Bangkok's skyline turned purple. Me and my buddy were sipping the complimentary cocktails while enjoying this great view.
At dinnertime, we went out to check our food options
around the area. There was an on-going indie festival right outside the hotel
that showcased local thingamajigs. We checked out some stuff and consumed an
hour or so on shopping. A nice dinner on a hawker stall and a booze session followed after.

We had great plans of exploring our favorite spots in
Bangkok the next day. But nothing transpired as we cocooned inside the cozy
duvet and fluffy pillows throughout the day. We’re in the middle of our
two-month backpacking trip around Southeast Asia and it was a much needed rest.
Late that afternoon, we took a quick dip at the
infinity pool with Bangkok skyline as backdrop. And then we waited
for the purpleish sunset of
Bangkok.
Later that night, we checked out the party scene at
Khao San Road that's just a bus away from Novotel Bangkok Platinum Pratunam. We
had a lovely night out and met some cool backpackers during our food and beer
sessions.
Our last day was all about food. Again, we had great
plans on exploring the shopping centers right outside the hotel but were pulled
towards The Square Restaurant.
The Square Restaurant |
The Square is the in-house restaurant of the hotel. It
serves Thai, Asian and International dishes in buffet and a la carte options.
We’re glad to have sampled the breakfast buffet (complimentary for in-house
guests) and lunch buffet during our stay.
Buffet Lunch spread |
The lunch buffet spread was more exciting. With
different hot, cold and live stations, it surely gave us a hard time deciding
on what to try first. In the end, we got to try almost everything that was
served; food coma afterwards.
Surprisingly, I loved the beef tacos from the halal
section. My buddy enjoyed everything the grilling station where you
could ask for a specific meat to be cooked just the way you want it.

It was hard for us to leave a place where it became
home for us. With heavy heart, we checked out and said our goodbyes to everyone as we
boarded the free shuttle service to Siam.
Boarding the plane heading for Chiang Mai I realized
that I didn’t have my ipod with me. I was wondering if I left it at the in-room
safe of the hotel or if I lost it somewhere. I emailed Novotel Bangkok Platinum
Pratunam when we arrived at Chiang Mai and they confirmed that I actually left
it there. They shipped it to Chiang Mai at no cost, which went back to Bangkok
(for whatever reason) and then they sent it again to Chiang Rai (our next
destination). But sadly, I missed it when we left for Laos. To cut it short, I
haven’t got hold of my ipod (who seemed to have its own itinerary) till now and is safely kept by my friend who’s
based in Thailand.
Aside from the warmest welcome we received from all of the staff,
I would like to commend their utmost concern for their guest; a certain kind of
care that you wouldn’t normally receive in other hotels. On my next visit to Bangkok,
I would surely stay at Novotel Bangkok Platinum Pratunam. And if not, I would visit my new friends there for an all-day catching up session.
