It was one of those rare times when our team was complete (we’re missing a colleague who’s chasing his dreams somewhere though). We’re all quite hooked with movie staycations lately and this time, we’re conquering my hometown; B Hotel in Quezon City was our refuge for the weekend.
B Hotel is the newest addition to the emerging hotel
scene in Timog and Tomas Morato area, it was still on its soft opening
stage when we visited. I was bred in Quezon City and the said district has to be one of the gimik places in the city especially during my younger years,
let’s say fifteen years ago, yeah, I’m old like that. Lined with restaurants,
bars, karaoke houses and more, this is the
party place.
Located at Scout Rallos, parallel to Timog Ave., we easily spotted our hotel in the midst of Quezon City’s entertainment district (check here for discounted tours, transportation and activities in Metro Manila). With the scorching heat outside, we ran towards the comforts of B Hotel. It was the group’s third staycation in Quezon City and it felt good to be near home.
The unfinished
look of the enormous lobby was a refreshing sight, some call it industrial
design or industrial themed. It’s so bold for this hotel to come up with the
said concept; unfinished cement wall
surface, exposed pipes with light fixtures as wall décor, non-matching chairs,
strikingly red paint on one of the stairways, splashes of red and yellow lounge
chairs and more. You wouldn’t think that it will work, but it did.
The surging temperature drained all our strengths and
boosted our appetites. We’re so hungry that we didn’t have energies to go
straight to our rooms. There’s a Pastry
Corner on one end but we wanted a full meal so we settled on the Lobby Café to have a hearty lunch.
We had Organic
Farm Green Salad, Cream of Mushroom
Soup, Pampano with Tausi Sauce, Pinakbet
with Bagnet, Beef Black Pepper Sauce,
U.S. Angus Rib Eye and King Grilled Prawns.

I love my greens so I totally enjoyed the Pinakbet with Bagnet. The crunchy bagnet toppings complemented the yummy veggies.
The Beef Black Pepper Sauce was also remarkable with its tender and juicy
flavors.

After the feast, we checked out the rooms so as to get
the overall vibe of the hotel (check room types and rates). The hallways on
each floor were all in tune with the whole theme that was evident on the unfinished cement wall surface and the
metal sprockets and gears on the walls.

Let's check out the rooms... |
We checked out the One-Bedroom Suite and were all
taken aback of its enormity, like we all could fit in inside it. The industrial
theme was reflected on the walls, fixtures and overall feel of the room. The bathroom was equally huge with a bath tub
resting on one side.

There’s also a living room and dining room area with
mini-kitchen.
Billeted on a Superior Room, we split up and went to
our assigned rooms. I tapped the keycard and was amazed on the unique space we
had.
I walked pass the door and was motionless for a
moment. The open-type wash basin on my right was incorporated in the room while
the toilet and bath on my left was in a clear glass box. The door that shuts
the bathroom was also the door that secures the shower area which opens up to
the toilet, cool eh? As for the clear glass, a shutter was provided for those
intimate moments.

I moved further and noticed the coffee and tea-making
facilities on a long table and a mini fridge below. An LCD
T.V. with local and international channels and a funky telephone were on the
same line. On the far end was the coolest work space ever, an industrial work
station. The red metal chair and an interrogation room lamp worked perfectly together, my idea of a
minimalist work space.
Sleek |
A huge window shutter opened up to a nice city view.
The old school windowpane was then revealed. A wooden lounge chair was rested
on a corner near the table. And then the beds…
Two double-sized beds were the focal point of the
room. The all-white sheets were matched by the grey headboard and bedstead. It had
a masculine feel to it and I loved it.
Superior Room Twin |
As I settled on my bed I imagined a future home to be
like this; form and function both working together. And the daydreaming went on
for hours.
After a quick rest, our group converged at the Poolside Bar on the third level. We
wanted a quick dip but were all pulled towards the bar. We sampled the famed Carbonara
con crema tartufo on Linguini pasta with the signature Kalikasan
cocktail drink. And this, my friends, is one of the best Carbonaras I’ve ever
had. It had the perfect blend of creamy sauce and the saltiness from the bacon
bits and grated parmesan cheese.
After the yummy merienda,
we headed to our chosen movie room (Julius’
room won) and a '90s local movie that stirred everyone’s thoughts commenced the
movie marathon.
It was dinnertime and we headed to the Mezzanine Bar for another grand feast.
The loft bar had this very mannish feel to it with leather seats with black and white
flooring. The wall was adorned with exposed bricks with mirrors and photos of
old Manila.

It was nine in the evening and the night was still
young. The quiet neighborhood of B Hotel is in contrast with the lively party
scene of Timog Ave. We found our perfect tambayan
beer place a few meters away from the hotel. The street was lined with three or
four modest bars that serve cheap beers and chows. Endless chats and laughter
lasted for hours until the wee hours of the morning. Everyone retired effortlessly
after the beer sesh.
I woke up earlier than expected, a few minutes after dawn (blame my body clock). Realizing that I wasn’t in my own bedroom and that it was a Sunday, I slowly walked toward the window and pulled the shades up. The soft light from the morning sun touched my face. I smiled and went back to bed.

Thirty minutes before the complimentary breakfast ends
our group raided the Lobby Café. The buffet spread featured local breakfast
favorites. There were also bread, soup (congee), salad, dessert and cereal
stations. I feasted on longganisa, scrambled
eggs and the scrumptious Buttered Boneless
Bangus.
We converged on one room, all ten of us, and continued
the movie marathon. We watched two movies and ordered two bucketsful of fried
chicken from our favorite fast food chain. With more laughter and stories in
between, the staycation ended like
that. But no.
We’re already checked out and lounged at the lobby
balcony, it was six in the afternoon. The conversations became so engaging that we all felt the need to
booze up instantly. The supposedly just
one round of beer didn’t happen, as expected. We had four rounds and ended at
around eleven in the evening. If not for our work the next day, I know that it
won’t end. We love each other like that.
Team RH will be back. That's fo sho! |
The hotel industry's competitive scene paved way
for radical changes which definitely is encouraging. B Hotel in Quezon City has
a refreshingly cool vibe that may or may not be appealing to everyone. But I
love the daring and bold concept of the hotel; the first of its kind in the
metro. Experience Seamless Combination of
Form and Function at its Best. Their tagline captured it perfectly.

ReplyDeleteHi there Eddie. It's near Tomas Morato and Timog areas which are famous for nice restaurants. One cab away is Trinoma Mall and SM North EDSA :)
