After 4 ½ hours we finally arrived at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan Airport a little past eight in the evening. We dashed into the visa-on-arrival lane and after half an hour or so we were being surrounded by cabbies right outside the arrival hall. We scanned through the placards of the hotel pick-up services and saw my name under the Hotel Ganesh Himal’s sign. We hurriedly went inside the van and sped away from the pandemonium thanking the driver for the free airport pick-up service of the hotel.
"Blissfulgaro" |
After 30 minutes, we safely arrived at Hotel Ganesh Himal, our home for
three days. We were dead tired after traveling from Manila to Kuala Lumpur to
Kathmandu for two days and the refreshing welcome drinks helped soothe our
worn-out bods. The ornate designs of the lobby and the rustic vibe of the hotel
were such a warm welcome in contrast to the chilly weather in Kathmandu (check for discounted tours in Kathmandu).
Located just minutes away from the famous tourist spots of Thamel and Durbar Square in Kathmandu, the hotel is truly the perfect place to stay when you’re in town. This budget hotel will surprise you in so many ways. We often associate budget with very little expectations on the quality and service but with this hotel, everything will exceed from your expectations.
This intimate hotel of bricks houses 30 comfy rooms with three types of
accommodations to perfectly suit the needs of the guests. They have Standard
room, Deluxe room and Super Deluxe room with single, double and triple sharing (check rates).
The hotel annex |
Checking in was a breeze. The helpful staff and the manager assisted us in our reservations and quickly ushered us to our room on the hotel's annex.
We had a Double Standard room which has the basic amenities of twin
beds, a TV set, complimentary water and an en suite toilet and bathroom with
hot and cold shower. Nothing fancy. There’s an air-conditioning unit in our room
but believe me you won’t be using it with the chilly weather in Kathmandu.

The water and power supply in Kathmandu is very erratic but the hotel has its own water supply and generator set that comes very handy during electricity cut-off around town. The free WiFi also helped us plot our itinerary very well.
Hotel Ganesh Himal also offers a free pick-up service from the airport, room cleaning and laundry services, free luggage and safe deposit, currency exchange, free use of their mini library, travel arrangements, free use of their computers with reliable internet connection and complimentary use of their telephone, fax, scanner and printer. For the reasonable price you pay it seems like they’ve got everything covered for you. They are really committed to the welfare of their guests.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at the hotel’s garden area. We got to try out their breakfast sets. Indian breakfast starts
at around $2 and the Continental breakfast starts at $3. A pot of milk coffee
is to die for when in Nepal, just don’t forget to try it on the restaurant.

Hotel Ganesh Himal’s rates are good, location is perfect, the amenities
are nice and the services are awesome – just the perfect way to start our
