Four days and three
nights in Siem Reap; we needed to find the perfect place to chill after our temple
runs and food trips around the city. The perfect place that would give us the
local vibe of Siem Reap.
Looking out for a place
to stay when you’re on a trip is quite easy if you know what you’re looking
for. For me and my buddy, we always consider budget and location for our
lodgings. In Siem Reap (where every hotel is usually named ‘Angkor’) we did
have an extra criterion though, the local vibe of the place. And Angkor
Tropical Resort (check rates) perfectly fits in that third requirement.
I made online room
reservations and other arrangements with the resort manager/owner, Dave, and
everything went well. I also pre-arranged a tuk
tuk pick-up from the airport. Our names would then be flashing right in
front of us as we went out of the terminal. Our cool tuktuk driver greeted us right away and ushered us to our ride and
went to the Angkor Tropical Resort.
It was a foggy morning
and the 15-minute ride from the airport gave us a quick peek on Siem Reap. We
were then greeted by Dave and chatted for a while. We discovered many things
about Siem Reap through the eyes of a traveller, Dave it is (which is actually
an American guy who fell in love with the place and decided to stay there). We
couldn’t get our minds off on what he’s saying about the best food finds near
the area and the best time to go to our places of interest (check here for discounted tours, transportation and activities in Siem Reap).
The Angkor Tropical
Resort boasts with 11 Deluxe and Superior rooms that are available on a daily,
weekly, monthly and yearly basis. The three-storey building is enveloped with
lush greeneries. That tropical feel that you’re looking for is certainly right
there.
The place is tucked
inside a residential area near the main highway, the National Highway 6 (and
that’s the local vibe we’re looking for). It is near a Wet Market where fresh
fruits, hawker stalls, and the yummiest French breads are found. It is also a
5-minute ride from the popular night-out destinations (Pub Street, Night Market
and the Old Market).
We were then guided to
our room which is located on the first level. The room is huge with all the
amenities that equates to a perfect vacation. The king-sized bed is perfect,
there’s also a Cable T.V., Fan, Air conditioning and a strong free Wi-Fi connection.
An en suite toilet and bathroom is fully equipped with shower and hot water.
And just when I thought that everything will be over, we were led to our own kitchen/dining area furnished with butane gas stove, refrigerator, dining table and chairs and some kitchen tools (pots, pans, plates, utensils, etc.). It felt like home immediately. We abused the kitchen by cooking our breakfast fares everyday. Imagine the convenience.

I also love the fact
that we’re just strides away from our favorite hang-out place in the resort,
the garden area. A native hut with some benches and table was our refuge every
morning and when we get home at night. Reveries were discussed here while
downing some bottles of beer. This is also the place where guests usually
commune with each other. We met a lot of good souls right here and shared a lot
of travel insights.

I’m starting to miss
Angkor Tropical Resort and everyone there. I’m hoping that I could go back to
Siem Reap the soonest and just chill at our favorite hut, oh… I miss that hut.
